Here in Seattle we’ve risen to the challenge too: dozens have closed their accounts, protesters have disrupted branches, and last week some five hundred people rallied at Wells Fargo’s Seattle HQ.
Three months ago, Standing Rock’s leadership requested that we “take bold action in our local communities to force investors to divest from the project.” In Seattle, we’ve done that: last week, dozens closed their accounts at Wells Fargo Center, as 500+ rallied outside (Wells Fargo is one of the largest investors in DAPL).
With over 550 people arrested at Standing Rock, the legal system is overwhelmed, and the pool of North Dakota attorneys willing to take Water Protector cases has been exhausted. Many out-of-state attorneys are eager to join the fray–but they can’t, because they’re not authorized to practice in ND.

Wells Fargo is one of the biggest funders of DAPL; if you have an account there, we’d love for you to close it tomorrow, and be sure to tell them why.
We’re devastated. In addition to his many other profound failings as a human being, Donald Trump is a nightmare for the climate. But while we may need time to catch our breath and grieve as we adjust to this new reality, we should also keep in mind what’s good — because it’s very, very good:
Thanks to all who were able to show up today at Michels for our #NoDAPL solidarity action. We were able to deliver a demand letter to the office, and there was also a support letter from CM Kshama Sawant..we’ll to follow up soon with a petition to local public entities, asking them not to do business with Michels anymore.

The Delta 5 trial concluded today, with a little something to bemoan (a guilty verdict for misdemeanor trespass and the fact that they couldn’t use the necessity defense in the end) and much to celebrate (an acquittal on the “obstructing a train” charge, and the thoughtful words of both the judge and the jurors. The wheels of justice are turning, if too slowly.)
