The (Ig) Noble Discoverer is Gone

Well, we knew that kayaks vs. the machine wasn’t a fair fight, but nonetheless, it was very hard to watch the Noble Discoverer head up to Alaska this morning.
Well, we knew that kayaks vs. the machine wasn’t a fair fight, but nonetheless, it was very hard to watch the Noble Discoverer head up to Alaska this morning.
Within a day or three–possibly as early as tomorrow–the (Ig) Noble Discoverer will leave Everett, on its way to the Arctic.
24 activists were detained last Monday, after blockading the departure of the Polar Pioneer for Alaska. Carlo & Emily were among those detained, as were 10 other local activists (including our dear friend, Council Member Mike O’Brien), as well as a dozen Greenpeace activists who joined us from farther afield.

The Pacific Climate Warriors want to send a statement of gratitude and support for your upcoming rallies and actions on May 16-18th opposing Shell’s attempts to drill for oil in the Arctic.
Over 1000 people joined us at Myrtle Edwards as we showed our resolve against Arctic drilling. The event featured an amazing lineup of speakers and performers who highlighted the impacts of climate change on the global south, both globally and locally: Katrina Pestaño of Bayan USA, Precious Butiu of Gabriela Seattle, Sarra Tekola of Divest – UW, Jill Mangaliman of GotGreen?, Annie Leonard of Greenpeace, Tsleil-Waututh Sundance Chief Rueben George, and Aji and Adonis Piper and Saiyana Auzumura with Plant for the Planet.
