Welcome to the November Edition of the 350 Seattle newsletter. We’re sending this newsletter a day early because we have two exciting events today we wanted to get in front of your eyeballs: a t-shirt printing party at our office with Seattle Solidarity Budget, and a visit to our joint ofrenda at Centro de la Raza for Día de los Muertos.
But if your day is already spoken for, we have plenty more in here to interest activists and justice seekers of all styles, including:
– Keeping our communities fed during this uncertainty with federal food aid
– Events like our Climate Community night or the People’s Forum on AI
– Opportunities to shake your fists at perennial villain, Tacoma LNG
– Join the Practical Radicals Book Club or attend the in-person Coming Back to Life session.
Wishing all of you a gentle, relaxing Saturday.
– 350 Seattle

Keeping Our Communities Fed Federal food aid (SNAP, or food stamps) ran out yesterday after Senate Republicans blocked a bill to continue the program. While federal judges have ordered the Trump administration to at least partially restore benefits, it’s uncertain what happens from here. Even if SNAP benefits are restored, payments will be delayed – leaving millions of hungry families in a lurch. Partial payments may also not be enough to put food on the table all month. Nationally, 40 million people could lose access to food, 39% of them children. Here in Washington, nearly 1 million people are facing hunger if SNAP funding isn’t fully restored. And this is all happening in the wake of Trump’s $186B cut to SNAP funding, which means that about 4 million people – mostly children, seniors and people with disabilities – will lose their food assistance in 2026. Now more than ever, we need to take care of each other – and build power to stop greedy politicians and their billionaire backers from gambling with our lives. Everyone deserves healthy food. No one should be worried about where their next meal is coming from, or if they’ll be able to feed their family. Where to access food now: – Use any remaining EBT funds (the cuts affect benefits scheduled for November; not funds already on your card) – Find food banks near you using 211’s searchable map (King County specific: search by location, language, days open) – Find free hot meals every day of the week (Seattle specific: food provided by local restaurants and community organizations) – Find a Community Fridge in your area (Seattle specific: fridges full of food for anyone who needs it, open 24hrs) – Find a Little Free Pantry in your area (national: non-perishable and dry goods for anyone who needs them, open 24hrs) – Find your community’s Buy Nothing group (neighbors sharing what they have and asking for what they need, via a free app) How you can help: – Donate food, funds, or volunteer time to your local food bank. View NW Harvest’s statewide partner map to find a food bank near you. You can also donate directly to NW Harvest here. – Host a community food drive. Register and get resources here. – Stock a Little Free Pantry near you with non-perishable food. – Be a grocery buddy for someone impacted by SNAP cuts. This looks like adding a few items to your next grocery shop: you can set your budget ahead of time, offer this resource in a community channel (for example, a neighborhood chat or Buy Nothing post), coordinate with someone who responds and then get food to someone who needs it while making a meaningful community connection! – Contact Congress and demand emergency SNAP funding. Senator Maria Cantwell: (202) 224-3441 Senator Patty Murray: (202) 224-2621 Look up your Congressional Representative by address here. – Learn more about food insecurity in King County with this resource guide from Basilica Bio. Have something to add to this resource list? Want to get involved with local mutual aid to keep our communities fed? Reach out to jess@350seattle.org
The People’s AI Forum Are you concerned about data centers in Washington? Seeking to chat with others about the environmental impacts of emerging tech? Generally concerned about the unsubtle emerging dystopia?Join us for a community **potluck** and dialogue on November 19, 6-8pm @ Prospect UCC (1919 E Prospect St).We will have presentations, group discussions, and a way to meet with local community orgs. It’s a potluck, so bring something to share! This is the first of three panels. So sign up even if you can’t make this one. Hosted by Seattle DSA Ecosocialists, 350 Seattle, and Troublemakers.

November Climate Community Night: Friendsgiving, Food Drive, and Make Polluters Pay! November 6th, 2025 RSVP HERE! On November 6th, you and yours are invited to a special Climate Community Friendsgiving! In light of the expiration of SNAP benefits, we’re turning this event into a food drive to feed our community members and neighbors. Bring pantry items, if you can, or take what you need. We’ll donate what remains. We’ll also be highlighting ways you can get involved in our new Make Polluters Pay campaign, which will seek dollars for climate resilience projects in Washington state from those fossil fuel companies most responsible for carbon pollution. More about 350 Seattle’s community space, getting there, and accessibility info here.
No Fracked Gas in Clean Air Tell Port of Tacoma & Port of Seattle that LNG, aka “fracked gas”, has no place in our clean air plan. Commissioners will vote in December to adopt the NW Ports Clean Air Implementation Strategy, a 5-year plan to guide the reduction of GHGs and health-harming emissions. The current draft plan would increase LNG! It says: “Explore opportunities related to increased use of LNG by global ship fleet” as one of the strategies, and they mention Puget Sound Energy’s Tacoma refinery as “underutilized“. Take Action! Send a pre-written comment or send your own original comment for more impact. Attend the next Port of Seattle hybrid meeting and give a verbal comment on Tuesday, November 11th at 12pm. More info here.

We love to hear from you! |
Protect Four Older Forests Mature and older forests are essential to the health and wellbeing of our region and communities–they provide clean air and water, vital wildlife habitat, and mitigate the climate crisis by absorbing and storing planet-warming carbon. Only 5% of these older forests are left on Washington State lands, making it essential to protect these remnants from clearcut logging. The Department of Natural Resources manages hundreds of acres of monocrop plantation forests that could provide timber and revenue for communities, but DNR is still proposing new clearcuts for these older forests. This November, four older forests are expected to be presented to the Board of Natural Resources to be approved for harvest: Sincerely Listening, Starwagon, Atonal and Tuckered Out. Click here to tell the DNR to reject any proposal to clearcut these older forests!
