| 10 Years of the Civic Action Team 350 Washington’s Civic Action Team (CAT) is wrapping up its 10th year of powerful advocacy work in Olympia! Join us online on Monday, April 20th from 6-7pm to celebrate our hard work together at the CAT 2026 Legislative Session Wrap Up & Celebration. We’ll share a recap of what went down this session, meet the volunteers behind the action, and cheer our collective grassroots power. |
| April Climate Community Night Climate Community Night (CCN) is the monthly event when community members–from seasoned volunteers to climate curious folks–come together to eat, build community, and take action together. On April 16th, we’ll hear from our Civic Action Team (CAT) about the legislative session that just wrapped in Olympia and do some visioning facilitated by Jess and Shemona. We are gathering at a NEW space – The Metropole (423 2nd Ave Ext S) – just around the corner from our new office and one block from the Pioneer Square light rail. APRIL Climate Community Night. April 16th. RSVP Here.  We’ll also be joined by Jo, a local printmaker and writer, who will lead a print making workshop. Make whale prints on tree-free lokta paper as a gift for new members. | Training: Introduction to Power & Strategy Getting personal for a moment here. When I (Jess, Organizing Director, writer of this newsletter entry) first showed up as a volunteer eight years ago, I had no idea how social changed happened. It seemed like it had something to do with getting a lot of people in the streets? But it was all very mysterious and honestly, kind of overwhelming. Especially because as an organizer coming up in the first Trump era, I saw many examples of people getting in the streets and experiencing our power, without that translating into immediate or lasting change. But being a part of grassroots campaigns over the years taught me about power – and that’s been empowering. Now I understand it’s not just about getting people together and hoping; there are very specific and practical things we can do to understand what power is, how it works and how to build it for ourselves. And that we can learn so much from social movements past and present, where everyday people have applied these same concepts in many different contexts to confront injustice and win real change. This is the training I wish I had on Day 1. We’ll dig into core organizing concepts like power, strategy and tactics. We’ll learn from 350 Seattle’s past campaigns (what worked, and what didn’t) and share our local power analysis. We’ll draw from movement history and current case studies, and explore what all this means in our fight to Make Polluters Pay, melt ICE, check billionaire power and resist the Trump agenda. | Artful Activism Team We need you! Artful is a fun way to engage in community, or behind the scenes, to create, maintain, and manifest powerful, beautiful, inviting art of all kinds for our teams and the movement. No previous experience needed! Art Build RSVP to get details and updates for our upcoming art builds – no experience needed, but all skills appreciated! April 25th, Saturday, 1-5PM, Cap Hill near light rail: Help us create! Paint a gorgeous Prayer Walk banner for Immigrant Justice, a Make Polluters Pay banner, a Climate Action Families batik banner, deer fence banners with SeattleStrike; Monarch, Orca, and Heron repairs, and more TBD. Art in Action RSVP – to help with art at the wonderful actions/events! We need many people to make our actions’ messaging great! Join us in this very rewarding role!! No experience needed; we’ll teach you how. Help set up and carry our powerful artful messaging in the streets! May 16th, Saturday, 11:00-6:00, Immigration Justice Prayer Walk begins at noon in Ballard, includes a water ceremony, and ends with a meal and more at Daybreak Star. Your hearts and hands needed to be in solidarity with our Immigrant communities, and to assemble and animate the gorgeous monarch butterfly props; the giant eagle, condor, and quetzal puppets; and the powerful and beautiful Immigrant Justice banners! | Make Polluters Pay The Make Polluters Pay (MPP) campaign has lots of exciting opportunities to get involved. We’re hosting a virtual campaign welcome call on Monday, April 13th, 5:30-6:30pm that you don’t want to miss. Come learn all about the campaign, build community, and find your place in the movement.  Mark your calendars: Make Polluters Pay Contingent on May Day (Fri, May 1st): We’re bringing a MPP contingent to May Day Strong. We’ll march together to expose Trump’s polluter agenda full of Big Oil giveaways. We’ll also be canvassing on May Day to build support for making polluters pay their fair share for the climate harms their pollution has caused in Washington. Our demand is to hold polluters accountable – people and planet over Big Oil billionaires! Earth Day Event (Weds, April 22nd): This Earth Day to May Day, we’re fighting back against fossil fuels, fascist fools and the billionaires bankrolling them. Show up to the Earth Day Mass Meeting to hear the plan and gear up for May Day together. At this community gathering, we’ll share a meal, ground ourselves in the political moment and get ready to hit the streets together on May Day. | Policy Action Team Please join us at our next meeting, Wednesday, May 6th at 5:00 online to find out how you can help pass and protect strong environmental justice legislation. Thanks to all for your powerful messages to our state legislators during the recent short session. Together with other 350 WA CAT and green groups, we mobilized unprecedented demands to “Do Data Centers Right” and to promote access to solar energy as well as to protect climate commitment funds. We’ll celebrate our wins and plan how to build our power for the next session with more letters, calls, visits and speaking up at legislative Town Hall meetings. We will also plan how to support other emerging campaigns related to solar, plastics and trade. We will also share the latest on 350 Seattle’s new statewide campaign, Make Polluters Pay by organizing opposition to a proposed federal bill which would preempt state action. Called No immunity for Big Oil (NIBO), we’ll ask federal Senators and Reps to commit to voting no. | Aviation Team The next meeting of the Aviation Team is Tuesday, April 14, online from 7-8PM, and will feature a wrap up of the State legislative session, all those private jets flying here for FIFA matches, and more strategic planning. | Antiwar X Climate The climate crisis is welded to US militarism, so we have to face both to win a livable, thriveable future. Have you heard about the new film “Earth’s Greatest Enemy – a documentary exposé of the world’s biggest—and most unaccountable—polluter: the US military”? 350 Seattle is collaborating with Veterans For Peace, the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines, Earthcare Not Warfare, and other local antiwar organizations to host multiple screening-discussion events in honor of Earth Day: April 24 at The Beacon Cinema on Rainier Ave S, April 25 at Keystone Church in Wallingford, and April 26 at the Beacon Hill Library (see poster for details). There will be a 4th showing in Kenmore, details TBC. Save the date for the next in-person gathering of the 350 Seattle Antiwar x Climate work group: Saturday, May 9, 2:30-4:30, Northgate Library (near Northgate light rail). Details TBA.  |
| Brew A Cup of Joy Climate change feels insurmountable. LGBTQ+ rights are under attack. How do we find joy and hope in times like these? | 350 Seattle Book Club The 350 Seattle Book Club is a collection of activists, organizers, and people who are interested in conversations about organizing, climate justice, history, and whatever else strikes our fancy. We pull from across the other 350 Seattle teams and welcome anyone who would like to join us! We choose our learning materials collectively twice a year. We meet every two weeks on Sundays from 2:30-4:30 PM in a hybrid formation via Zoom or in person at the 350S office in the Pioneer Square. Check out our reading list for the first part of 2026! In April, we will start by finishing up a conversation on How We Show Up by Mia Birdsong. In How We Show Up, Mia shows that what separates us isn’t only the ever-present injustices built around race, class, gender, values, and beliefs, but also our denial of our interdependence and need for belonging. We will be discussing Chapters 5-7 on April 12th. Later in the month, we will be starting our discussion on Fragments of an Anarchist Anthropology by David Graeber. Fragments of an Anarchist Anthropology” is a 2004 pamphlet by David Graeber exploring the potential of linking anthropology with anarchism as a cohesive social theory. | Troublemakers Our friends at Troublemakers are hiring for three roles! A contract for summer 2026 to organize the Agents of Change nonviolent direct action training series, a contract to run their communications and social media, and a part-time role as an organizer for Troublemakers neighborhood groups. | Climate Action Families April 11, 11am-12:30pm Location: Douglas Research Observatory RSVP HERE! Join Climate Action Families for our Spring Outdoor Program in partnership with UW’s Society for Ecological Restoration: Repurposing Invasive Plants!We’ll be doing a hands-on work party at Yesler Swamp to remove invasive species, then repurpose them into art. We’ll reconvene at the Douglas Research Conservatory to make star wands out of English Ivy and gather plants to make stamps out of nature’s designs!This family-friendly event is a great opportunity to learn about local restoration efforts and how you can get involved in transforming the community. Wear clothes that can get dirty, sturdy shoes, and bring a full water bottle. SER-UW will provide gloves and tools. We’ll have snacks and refreshments after the work party! |
| Chiapas Education Project Share the gift of your old laptops – needed by May. Our friend, Chris Esponda of Chiapas Education Project is in search of 20 computers to refurbish and upcycle for two schools on their next trip to Chiapas, the most underserved state in Mexico. Your old laptops help give youth tech repair and other skills, giving them opportunities to stay in their communities, and this process also keeps harmful pollution out of our landfill.
