Read on for more amazing climate justice events. 🍂 Happy Autumn 🍂 – 350 Seattle |
Making Polluters Pay Big Oil is fueling climate disasters while raking in record profits. Yet they’re not paying a dime toward the cost of the destruction they helped cause. Meanwhile, the MAGA regime, bought and sold by Big Oil CEO’s, is supercharging fossil fuels as extreme weather disasters devastate communities at a scale we’ve never seen before. We’re fighting back. We’re building a campaign to hold Big Oil accountable for the destruction their pollution has caused our state, while raising millions for climate justice and resilience. Join our webinar to learn more. Oct 29th, 5-6pm Zoom RSVP HERE
350 WA Civic Action Team New Volunteer Welcome The 350 WA Civic Action Team campaign is heading into our 10th year!! And we’re inviting you to join us for our New Volunteer Welcome tomorrow, October 6th from 6-7pm.Ready to make an impact for climate justice in Washington State law? Last year we mobilized 670 folks across the state to take a collective total of 100,401 legislative advocacy actions! We helped pass 35 bills and stop 12 bad ones. In the upcoming short law making session, we hope to get more great climate justice bills across the finish line. Whether you end up joining us as a Volunteer or simply want to take legislative action with us beginning in January, we’d love to see you at our kickoff event. The 350 WA Civic Action Team Campaign, New Volunteer Welcome Monday, October 6th from 6-7pm RSVP
Even more community building Did you say MORE community building? That’s right, you can still attend the Community Building 1:1s Training! We rescheduled because a co-facilitator and multiple participants were out sick. Community-Building 1:1s Training Sat, Oct 11th, 11-1pm U-Heights Center, 5031 University Way NE RSVP for the Oct. 11th training hereGetting there, accessibility, covid safety & more here. Join us for a Community-Building 1:1s Training! 1:1s are peer-to-peer conversations that build an organizing relationship. Behind every successful campaign, there are hundreds and sometimes thousands of 1:1s! This 2 hour, in-person training at the 350 Seattle office will break down the art of a 1:1, share best practices and provide plenty of hands-on learning opportunities. And if you’re looking to get (more) involved with 350 Seattle, this training is a great first step for plugging in with one of our volunteer-led movement building teams.
October Climate Community Night The 1st Annual 50th Street Chili Cookoff & CAT Kickoff Redux! October 9th, 2025 RSVP here! Climate Community Night is the monthly time when community members–from seasoned volunteers to climate curious folks–come together to eat, build community, and take action together. On October 9th, you and yours are invited to welcome the season’s change with the First Annual 50th Street Chili Cookoff! And if you missed the Civic Action Team (CAT) kickoff, you’ll have another opportunity to learn how to become involved in the 350 Civic Action Team, which is currently gearing up for the next legislative session. This is a chili COOKOFF, not a mere chili feed–in short, it’s a contest! You can enter a vegetarian chili, a traditional chili, or some cornbread. If you don’t feel up to cooking, just bring your discerning palate and vote on your favorite entries! The winners of each category will take home prizes. And they will go down in history as the champions of the First Annual 50th Street Chili Cookoff–no small claim to fame. We’ll also have a photo booth to capture memories (or at least poses with funny props). This is a family friendly event; all ages and abilities are welcome. There is ample space in the building should a time out be required (that goes for adults, too!)
AntiWar X Climate Greetings from Aedan and Mary, co-leads of the Anti-War x Climate work group. Instead of monthly meetings, we are currently doing some strategic planning by reaching out to work group members on our AWxC Signal thread for one-to-one conversations. If you are not on the Signal thread but would like to offer some ideas on this work group, please contact us. Resources: There are many on the intersection of Militarism, Imperialism, and the Climate Crisis. Here is one from 350.org working with Veterans For Peace nationally. US Militarism in Hawaii and Guam are important places to become informed on. Locally, there is a very strong movement for human rights in the Philippines where US Militarism has had a huge presence for 125 years. One new resource on US Militarism and the Climate Crisis is a film by Portland filmmaker Abby Martin, “Earth’s Greatest Enemy.” Action: This Tuesday October 7, participate in the “March for Gaza,” 1pm at Cascade Playground in SLU, Seattle. This one is initiated by local Palestinian organizations and Seattle Against War (not to be confused with the Seattle Anti-War Coalition, which 350 Seattle is a member of). ![]()
| Policy Action Team On Saturday, October 18th, Seattle Indivisible is organizing a second No Kings mass rally and march from noon to 4pm at Seattle Center (rally at noon, with the march scheduled to begin at 1pm). | Coming Back to Life These are challenging times, no doubt. But you don’t have to face what’s happening in our world alone, and you can still make space for the emotional processing that will help you to show up to this moment in a powerful way. Join us for Coming Back to Life: Connection, Grief, and Action for these Times. Drawing from Joanna Macy’s Work That Reconnects, we engage in collective practices that deepen our capacity for dwelling with difficult emotions and strengthen our strategies for coping in uncertain times. While we usually meet on the third Saturday of the month, we encourage people to attend No Kings Day on October 18th, so we will meet the following day, on Sunday, October 19th, from 10AM to 12. Register here for each session you plan to attend. |
The Aviation Team No SeaTac Airport expansion! While the Aviation Team is pausing most of its usual activities for the rest of the year for strategic planning, we WILL be meeting October 14 online at 7 pm. Despite over 500 comments to the contrary, the EPA’s Environmental Impact Statement found no “significant” impact from the plan to greatly expand the number of flights. We hope for a better outcome from the upcoming State Environmental Policy Act review. Register here to join us. The Team is considering broadening our scope to envision an interconnected transportation system that facilitates a shift away from aviation. If you want to share your ideas on how to create an equitable and just transportation system, reach out to Aviation and one of the co-leads, Brandon or Laura, will set up a virtual or in-person chat with you. We would love to hear from you.
Data Centers 🙄 Data Center are a catastrophe for the climate and for anyone who has to pay for electricity. Last year, Gov. Ferguson created a Data Center Workgroup to see if we should continue giving Data big tax breaks. The Workgroup issued its draft recommendations, and we have only till TOMORROW to comment. Here are some pointers and an in-depth comment guide. Big Tech is rapidly building a world that is seriously dystopian, but we’re also at an inflection point where finally the AI hype is giving way to nuance and concerns–if we jump in hard and fast now, we can make a real difference.
Legacy forests back on the chopping block Advocates for legacy forests are heartbroken that Lands Commissioner Upthegrove’s executive order claiming to save 77K acres of mature forests… just doesn’t do that. This Tuesday, five of the ten timber sales going before the Board of Natural Resources (BNR) would clearcut increasingly rare legacy forests ranging in age from 90 to over 130 years old. The Department of Natural Resources is reverting to business as usual and allowing the demand for large timber to drive its management decisions, in plain violation of its own plans, policies, and procedures. Check out these details from the ground-truth experts at Legacy Forest Defense Coalition and send in comments to the Commissioner and the Board of Natural Resources immediately! Then restore your connection to nature with two legacy forest outings in King County this month — Tiger Mountain Legacy Forest Plant Walk, October 12th, details here, and Marckworth State Forest Hike on October 25th, details here.
Climate Action Families Sense of Belonging: Migration and Climate Change Workshop 📅 Saturday, October 18 & Sunday, October 19 🕙 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM each day 📍 UW Seattle Campus – Mary Gates Hall 👥 Youth ages 11–17 (6th–11th grade)This free 2-day youth workshop brings together two big themes: migration and climate change. The workshop invites youth from all backgrounds, whether new to these topics or already involved in climate and justice work. RSVP HERE! Lunch provided. ADA-accessible.
CAF October Monthly Meeting: Know Your Rights Training 📅 Friday, October 24 🕕 6:00–8:00 PM (doors open at 5:45 PM) 📍 El Centro de la Raza This month, Climate Action Families is gathering for an important session: a Know Your Rights Training hosted at El Centro de la Raza. Together, we’ll learn community safety practices and what to do in situations where immigration enforcement may impact ourselves, our neighbors, and shared spaces. The training will provide practical tools, handouts, and shared learning on how we can support one another with awareness and solidarity. This is a chance to deepen our understanding of what ICE encounters might mean for people in our community, and how we can act with care and preparedness. As always, our monthly meetings are family-friendly. Dinner will be potluck style. Bring a dish to share if you’re able, but come either way! RSVP HERE!
Divest Musk & Boycott T-Mobile We’re still mad about Musk, DOGE and the general downward spiral of tech companies. If you are too, we got a couple of way you can join the fight. We are calling for Seattle and King County to divest from all companies controlled by Elon Musk. Please sign the petition if you agree. If you want more context for this campaign, check out Emily’s great article on our blog. T-mobile is siding with the Trump administration and far-right extremists like Elon Musk. In July, T-mobile launched their partnership with the fascist CEO’s satellite company Starlink. We think that’s messed up! Sign the Boycott T-Mobile Pledge.
