| Happy holidays, and best wishes from all of us at 350 Seattle! This is our last newsletter of 2025 and we’re closing out the year with exciting news. 1. Our Executive Director Shemona has been named to co-chair Seattle Mayor-elect Katie Wilson’s Transportation and Environment Transition Team. This gives Shemona and our community a chance to shape the priorities of the incoming mayoral administration. 2. We are moving In January we are moving from the U-heights building and the U district to the Expansive Building in Pioneer Square. We are sharing a lovely suite (with a kitchenette! And a sink! And water!) with Amazon Employees for Climate Justice. Once we get moved in, we are looking forward to hosting everybody in our new digs. 3. We kicked off our Year End Fundraising drive on Giving Tuesday by raising over $5,000. Thank you to everyone who donated. We are going into next year needing to fundraise as more foundations and philanthropies move away from funding grassroots climate advocacy groups like us. | Demystifying AI RSVP for the People’s Forum on Artificial Intelligence. Join Seattle DSA, Troublemakers, and 350 Seattle for a series of community discussions exploring the real-world power and politics behind artificial intelligence (AI) – from the data centers that drain our water and energy, to the algorithms transforming work, democracy, and daily life. This isn’t a tech talk; it’s a people’s conversation about who controls the future and how we can fight for one that serves the public good. From labor rights to climate justice, we’ll unpack the material, political, and ecological stakes of AI — and build the understanding and solidarity we’ll need to push back. They are sounding the alarm about Amazon’s senior leadership abandoning climate commitments, expanding military surveillance and recklessly implementing AI. | Don’t Let Trump Bail Out Big Oil! Deadly heat waves, wildfires, drought — we’re already paying for the climate crisis with our wallet, health and lives. Meanwhile, the fossil fuel companies most responsible for this crisis are cozying up to Trump to secure themselves a get-out-of jail-free card. Trump has issued an Executive Order directing the U.S. Attorney General to try to block state laws and stop lawsuits that make polluters pay for the climate destruction they’ve caused. In order to do this, Trump needs Congress to grant immunity to Big Oil. We can’t let that happen.Here are three things you can do:Sign and share the petition demanding Congress stand up to Trump and stop the Big Oil bailout.Join us in Seattle on January 30th and for the Make Polluters Pay National Week of Action! We’ll deliver the petition to Senator Murray and show that Washington communities are ready to stand up to Big Oil and fight for our future. 11:30-12:30pm on Friday, Jan. 30 at the Federal Building in downtown Seattle. | Tell UW to Deal with their Gas Problem UW is currently accepting comments from stakeholders and community members to help shape their next five year strategic plan. The current plan is missing (1) a commitment to transitioning their gas power plant to electric power, (2) a plan to bring cooling to overheated UW buildings and (3) a map create good green union jobs on campus. | Donate Unused Laptops, Help Low Income Youth! Chiapas Education Project is collecting laptops to be refurbished and given to low income youth in Chiapas Mexico, Rapid City South Dakota, and here in Western Washington. This keeps electronics out of the landfill while expanding access to technology and changing lives. We can remove your hard drives for you when you drop off the electronics so your data is protected.Drop off your laptops at the newly reopened C.E. Computer Repair office at 1818 E. | CAT Campaign Kickoff Join the 350 Washington CIvic Action Teams’s virtual 2026 Legislative Campaign Kickoff on Wednesday, January 7th from 6:00-7:30 PM!Our 2026 CAT Campaign is about to start as Washington state’s legislative session begins mid-January. We want our voices heard in Olympia, so that we transform Washington with scientifically sound and socially just climate policies. Our political power comes from all of us working together to make change possible! CAT makes taking legislative actions in the state legislature easy and accessible. This will be a night to get excited about all the awesome work we will do together and see what a powerful group of folks we are. | Policy Action Team With the Trump administration slashing environmental and climate policies right and left, pushing for new climate policies in our state legislature is critical. Please join us at our next meeting,Wednesday, Jan. 7th at 5 pm on Zoom to find out how you can help push for new climate protections and funding by working with us in 2026. Here are some examples of things we are working on and need people for: *Our partnership with Third Act Washington (TAWA) to research the barriers to permitting rooftop solar in Washington, and to push for legislation for January 2027. *Our work with the Stop NW Gas Coalition Coalition to slow down and stop new gas pipelines and push for greater safety of existing pipelines. *Our agriculture work with folks in the Yakima region to address the climate and health effects of Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations, as they continue to grow and proliferate. At our next meeting and in early 2026, we want to hear from you about what you’d like to see our team work on. | Practical Radicals Book Club Join us for a community reading of Practical Radicals: Seven Strategies to Change the World. Whether you are brand new to social movements or have been organizing for decades, this book has so much to offer anyone who wants to resist injustice and build a better world – and we’re excited to learn with you! You can participate by reading the book, listening to the podcast or just showing up! We have intentionally selected key chapters/podcast episodes and built a schedule that balances all the juicy material with what’s realistic between sessions. For each session, there will be a core reading/podcast and a ‘stretch’ reading/podcast (and you’re still welcome to show up if you can’t do the reading that week). Sign up to join us here! | Aviation Team Stay Grounded, our international coalition opposing the climate and health impacts of aviation, recently celebrated the success of some local coalition work the Aviation Team has been involved in. The King County International Airport (KCIA) Community Coalition is doing a great job of organizing for health and climate justice at KCIA (Boeing Field) at a grassroots level, with thoughtful collaboration with a wide range of impacted communities. The Aviation Team will not be meeting in December but will meet January 13th, on Zoom, from 7-8, to prepare for the upcoming Washington state legislative session. | Coming Back to Life As we enter the darkest days of the year, we invite you to come together with others to process difficult emotions and uncover your unique gifts. Join us for Coming Back to Life: Connection, Grief, and Action for these Times. Drawing from Joanna Macy’s Work That Reconnects, we engage in collective work that deepens our capacity for dwelling with difficult emotions and strengthens our strategies for coping in uncertain times. We meet on the third Saturday of the month. In December, we will meet on Saturday, December 20th, online, from 10 am to noon. Register here for each session you plan to attend.
