We caught up with Dr. Sarah Myhre, an advocate, science communicator, paleoceanographer, and outspoken feminist and anti-racist. Among other credentials, she is a Kavli Fellow with the National Academy of Science, a founding member of 500 Women Scientists, and a board member for the Center for Women and Democracy.

It’s hard to prioritize personal well-being in the face of so much to fix in the world.

I got involved in the recent Solidarity Budget campaign because it was an excellent example of such a fight, made up of many groups in many movements. The campaign demanded a City budget that defunds the police to free up resources for vulnerable communities that have suffered for far too long under systems of oppression.

I hope that these simple excursions, while much different than our extended treks possible pre-children, help my kids learn to love and respect our Earth and the life it supports.

When I stopped drinking in early 2018, I didn’t realize that abstinence was just one piece of the recovery puzzle, and that my decision to quit would also expand my understanding of myself and my place in a broader community. I landed at 350 Seattle not long after.

As Indigenous people, Native people, we’re stewards of this land, which means that as the original peoples of this land, we feel it’s our responsibility to take care of the land and to educate others on how to take care of the land.
