The Port of Seattle is a jurisdiction separate from either the city of Seattle (where the maritime operations are) or the city of Sea-Tac (where the airport is)….and separate, too, from King County. That means that a large percentage of the pollution that happens in our region isn’t precisely answerable to either City or County government….the emissions of neither ships that dock here (cargo or cruise) nor airplanes that leave from here are properly accounted for in our sustainability goals.

That’s a big problem.

To dig in to these thorny issues, we have two Port sub-teams, Aviation and Maritime. Dig in with us!
