Act for our Future Pledge

Act for our Future Pledge

Act for Our Future Pledge (signable version here)

I, ________________________________, affirm that as an elected official of Washington state, I will support legislation that:

  1. Immediately halts all new fossil fuel infrastructure in our state;
  2. Commits Washington state to an economy running on 100% renewables by 2028;
  3. Addresses the need to plant 1 billion trees in WA to sequester CO2.

I understand that as an elected official of Washington state, I hold power at a critical moment in human history. I hold a position of leadership during what Governor Inslee called “the first generation to feel the impact of climate change, and the last generation that can do something about it.” I understand that the climate clock is running down; there can be no excuses. We need bold climate action now.

I further understand that atmospheric CO2 levels currently exceed 400 parts per million (ppm) and that to achieve climate recovery, the leading climate scientists say we need to reduce our CO2 levels to below 350 ppm by the end of this century. This goal is feasible, if challenging. I understand it will require a rapid transition off gas, oil, and coal, and forest and agricultural practices that  sequester carbon. Therefore, I commit to upholding the right of young people and future generations to a stable climate by sponsoring and supporting science-based climate legislation.
